An electromagnet holds a ball-bearing suspended above an electrical trap.  When the switch is thrown the electricity to the electromagnet is cut, the timer starts and the ball falls under the effect of gravity.  It breaks the connection to the timer at the base of the apparatus and stops the timer.


This experiment can be repeated on the Moon and on Mars to obtain the rates of acceleration for each.
