Simple Pendulum - determining acceleration due to gravity

In this experiment a steel ball on a string can be swung by applying an impulse using the mouse.  Its period can be measure either using a stop-watch or the gate timer which automatically times a complete swing.  The string’s length can be altered by using a winder.  A vertical ruler allows the string’s length to be measured.  The U-gate of the timer can be raised and lowered to allow the period of the swing to be measured for different lengths of string.  Thus a graph of T2 against length can be plotted the gradient of which can be used to calculate the acceleration due to gravity.
